- Eat soft diet. When you feel TMJ, avoid hard and crunchy foods that may increase the pain. Eat soft diets like mashed potatoes, yogurt, scrambled egg and soft vegetables and fruits to your menu. Kindly avoid chewing gum.
- Avoid extra movements of jaws. We know we cannot stop someone from talking, but it’s advisable to avoid extreme movements of your jaws to prevent pain from triggering.
- Avoid resting your hand on your chin or jaw. Some people have this mannerism, but try to avoid this if you have TMJ. And when you answer your phone, do not hold it between your face and shoulder to avoid poor posture and stiffs that will trigger TMJ.
- Slightly keep your teeth apart. This will help lessen the pressure on your jaw if you let your tongue in between your teeth to control clenching and sliding your jaws during the pain will occur.
